Florida’s new website allows people to practically “align” with COVID-19 vaccines

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida launched a new statewide website on Friday to streamline the state’s approach to COVID-19 vaccine distribution, following the slow launch of a helpline earlier this month.

The site, myvaccine.fl.gov, allows full-time and part-time Florida residents to register for the coveted vaccines in all 67 counties, placing them in a virtual queue until more doses are available. in their area.

“Register now for the COVID-19 vaccine,” the website reads. “We urge currently eligible Florida residents to save their place by pre-registration today.”

Currently, the state vaccinates people aged 65 and over, staff and residents of the long-term care institution, health care staff with direct contact with the patient and people who are extremely vulnerable to the virus.

This website will allow people who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to be proactively contacted when vaccination schedules are available at state-sponsored vaccination sites, the Florida Department of Health said in a statement.

The supply of vaccines remains limited and appointments may not be available for several weeks in some counties, warns DOH.

Users will select their county and click on “get in line” before filling in some personal information to register. Once the appointments are available, people will be contacted by phone, text or email to schedule an appointment, according to the DOH.

On Friday, the DOH said that as part of the nationwide registration system, each of Florida’s 67 counties has a designated phone number to call and pre-register. The full list of numbers is available here.

Broward, Duval, Hillsborough and Lee counties have begun using a hotline for the Florida Department of Health to book appointments with the vaccine, following a promise made earlier this month by the Florida director of emergency management to come a state-level appointment system.

However, the hotline and state website may not be the best way to sign up for your local health photography department.

Volusia County, for example, is still in preliminary discussions with the state on the system, but has not started using the platform. Volusia County officials in the field of emergency management encourage people to continue registration through the county portal.

“Currently, people who register for an appointment via MyVaccine (myvaccine.fl.gov) are placed in a queue that is not managed by Volusia County and will not be contacted for an appointment,” he said Friday in a statement. updates, Volusia. “People wishing to receive a vaccine through Volusia County should continue to register through Eventbrite or by calling the Citizens Information Center as additional vaccination events are announced.”

It is unclear how this new system operated by Sharecare software will play in counties that do not use the state registration number. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said on January 22 that the county will continue to use CDR Health for enrollment and does not intend to use the state system yet for the Orange County Convention Center vaccine site.

Florida Emergency Management Division Press Secretary Samantha Bequer said it was an individual choice if someone signed up with the nationwide pre-registration system.

“If a county has a system in place and decides to use the system at the state level, the state will work with them to merge the existing waiting lists,” Bequer said in an email. “In the counties where they opted for the system, eligible people will be contacted to schedule a meeting when available in the area through the state system.

She said Florida is working with counties to ensure that existing registration systems can coordinate with the MyVaccine website.
