This “big” scheme didn’t go too far …
Two Florida women dressed as “grandparents” in an attempt to get vaccinated against COVID-19, health officials said Thursday.
Getting them crazy included “hats, gloves, glasses – everything,” said Dr. Raul Pino, director of the Florida Department of Health in Orange County.
Workers at the Orange County Convention Center’s vaccine site noticed that the women “looked funny” and stopped them before they could get the shots, Pino said, according to WKMG-TV.
There was also a problem with the identity documents and driving licenses they provided, Pino noted.
The duo was coming for the second dose of vaccine.
Pino said he doesn’t know how they managed to get the first shot and it’s unclear if they used the same trick.
“I don’t know how they escaped for the first time,” he said.
The incident was handed over to local authorities, who issued warnings of violation of women.
The sheriff’s office in Orange County said that one of the women was 44 years old and the other was 34 years old, local press WWL-TV reported.
In Florida, only adults age 65 and older, health care workers and residents, and assisted living personnel are eligible for the vaccine.
Pino said the number of people trying to fake their identities to get shot is probably “higher than we expect.”
As a result, security has been tightened at the vaccination site, he said.
