Florida is offering to host the Olympics to replace Tokyo

Florida USA /

Florida asked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday for the state to be considered as. The place where the Olympic Games moved, where the COVID-19 pandemic makes it difficult to celebrate in Tokyo.

Six months after the Games opened, Jimmy Patronis, chief financial officer of the Florida government, sent a letter to Thomas Bach, President of the CIO, to consider “Move the 2021 Olympics from Tokyo to the United States and more specifically to Florida”.

“With Japan rethinking the Olympics, now is a good time for the CIO to implement a site selection team in Florida. (Especially now that we’re about to host Super Bowl LV), “Patronis said Monday on his Twitter account.

The official says in the letter that considering the reports of Japanese leaders who conclude “in private” that they are too concerned about the pandemic, “There is still time” to consider the “tourist state” of Florida.

Similarly, the official boasts that, compared to other states – including New York -, the Florida government has not closed its economy for long and quickly revived sporting events such as football and basketball, the latter with the use of a “bubble” installed in the city of Orlando.

“In addition, our international tourist destinations, such as Disney parks, have been open and operating safely in Florida for some time,” Patronis said.

The IOC intends to play games, despite growing doubts and concerns that the lack of control of the coronavirus pandemic is spreading globally.

He Olympic calendar still waiting postponements and cancellations which have in suspense, above all, the over 4,700 athletes – out of a total of 11,092 who have not yet won their Olympic place.
