Santo Domingo, RD.
Agents from the Specialized Security and Civil Aviation Corps (CESAC) and National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) confiscated five packages of one vegetable believed to be synthetic marijuana.
According to the report, the illegal substance entered the country by air, through an international securities sending agency, from Miami, United States, in a vacuum cleaner protected in a cardboard box.
The packages were discovered after the box they were in passed through one of the X-ray equipment located in warehouse number 5 of the Courier BPS company’s import of securities shipments.
While the box containing the vacuum cleaner in which the packages were hidden was sent to a woman living in Santo Domingo, whose name and address were not disclosed, so as not to hinder the investigation.
The five packages have been sent to the satellite office of the narcotics agency operating in the passenger terminal at Las Américas airport.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of cases of drug trafficking to and from the United States through the AILA freight terminal has increased in recent months.
From the terminal, the packages would be sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine whether it is synthetic marijuana, a drug with artificial chemical compounds that make it more dangerous.
Meanwhile, the DNCD, the Directorate-General of Customs and the Public Prosecution Service have opened an investigation into the case.
