The film Plantados, directed by Lilo Vilaplana, won the Audience Award at the 38th Miami Film Festival.
“The awards voted by our Festival’s audience are determined by the audience of each screening invited to evaluate the film,” said the Miami Film Festival.
In turn, Vilaplana thanked all those who bet on the film on their social networks: “Thank you to all those who prefer Plantados around the world. Thank you for supporting us and for wanting to do historical justice, “he said.
“Thank you to the Miami audience for supporting us. Thank you for choosing Plantados. We look forward to seeing you at the movies!”, Said the director.
Vilaplana said his film that It was released on March 12, said the festival offered his film a “fifth-grade treatment”.
“The Miami Film Festival’s disregard for historical exile and its complicity with the Castro dictatorship is ignorance,” he said.
The director also assured that the festival of the city of the sun treats the films made by the communists in preference and that they remain “kneeling” in front of the Cuban government for money and “comfort”.
“It’s a shame how the directors of this festival treated the film Plantados at this event. Plantados was the most watched film, made in Miami, with local talent, they despised it. Thanks Miami for the support! The accomplices of Castroism continue to kneel in the face of that dictatorship, “he said in a comment.
The Miami Film Festival took place in Miami on March 5-14 in virtual format, although some films were screened in cinemas.
Planted ribbon it is dedicated to the memory of all political prisoners who spent years in prison in Cuba for facing dictatorship.
Vilaplana himself said that the film, shot in locations in Miami and Puerto Rico, aims to “do historical justice.”
The Grand Master of Cuban Chess Lázaro Bruzón Batista recognized the value of the film: “I had already seen some documentaries on this subject, even so the film is another level. What value do those men have when they face so many injustices and violence against them. The biggest proof that everything that happened this way is true protagonists that many of them still live and come out at the end validating each argument, “he said.
“I sincerely recommend to those who want to know the true history of Cuba not to miss that film. One of the saddest pages in our nation is those crimes committed against those brave Cubans,” he added.
