SAN DIEGO – Padres star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. was injured in a rough Monday night and immediately left the game against the San Francisco Giants.
Tatis burst out with Anthony DeSclafani and shuddered with pain as he fell to the ground. He tied his left arm as he stood up and two athletics coaches helped keep his left arm close to his body as he left the field.
The parents later said that Tatis came out with a subluxation of his left shoulder, which is a partial dislocation of the joint. He will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
Tatis, 22, left a game late in the spring of training with discomfort in his left shoulder, but returned two days later. Manager Jayce Tingler said at the time that Tatis had been facing left shoulder discomfort since his minor league days. Tatis later said he got it from the starting ball.
Tatis made five mistakes in the first four games.
He signed the longest contract in major league history on February 22, a 14-year deal worth $ 340 million.
