PEORIA, Ariz. – Fernando Tatis Jr. came out of the Padres Cactus League match against the Reds on Tuesday, in the third half, on Tuesday, with discomfort in his left shoulder, after a hard game in defense.
Tatis, whose injury is to his non-throwing shoulder, is expected to be re-evaluated on Wednesday.
Padres ‘star shortstop went to the right, then made a long throw over the diamond to withdraw Jonathan India, Reds’ second baseman. Tatis was removed from the field immediately after being evaluated by manager Jayce Tingler and a team coach.
After retiring to the coach’s room for half a half, Tatis left Peoria Stadium accompanied by a member of the team’s medical staff.
Obviously, the parents can’t afford to be without Tatis, who scored a record 14-year extension last month. He missed all spring, posting 1,092 OPS in 11 games.
Tatis missed five games earlier this month with a non-COVID-related illness. He then missed a few more days after a hard slip of his head in the home plate left him a bit hit, although the team never revealed a specific injury. It is unclear whether Tuesday’s illness was linked.
