FedEx will reduce up to 6,300 jobs in Europe after the acquisition of TNT

The American logistics and transport group FedEx announced on Tuesday its intention to reduce between 5,500 and 6,300 jobs in Europe, after the 2016 acquisition of the Dutch group TNT.

“Since the acquisition, we have successfully combined the IT systems and some key activities of our air, road and land transport networks, while investing in technology and infrastructure,” the group said in a statement.

The acquisition was aimed at expanding the FedEx Express subsidiary across the Atlantic “by connecting the world’s largest express transportation network with an unparalleled European route network and global service offering,” the company said in a statement.

FedEx said it began negotiating with the company’s staff on Tuesday on these staff reductions.

The company plans measures to support affected employees, differentiated by country, and includes the possibility of voluntary departures.

The process will take 18 months.

The group intends to merge the FedEx Express and TNT airlines and make Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris its main hub.
