A ski resort in Colorado had a Covid-19 outbreak, with over 100 active infections among its employees.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment announced the outbreak at Winter Park Resort in January, but released the data in the outbreak’s weekly summary on Wednesday.
Are at least 109 employees with active infections, they said.
“It was established that these cases were not traced back to the transmission through interaction with visitors, but rather from out-of-work and housing gatherings,” officials in Grand County, Colorado, said Monday joint statement with Winter Park Resort.
With the ski season in full swing in Colorado, other resorts have also reported cases of Covid-19. But the Winter Park outbreak is currently the largest, according to CDPHE data.
“We have been working closely with public health authorities since the pandemic began,” said Jen Miller, communications manager at the ski resort. “We did extensive planning and had to get state approval for our operations before we could open on December 3.”
Cases related to social and life situations: Most cases were traced back to social gatherings outside of work and to the housing assembly, Miller said.
Precautions, according to Miller, include: reconfiguring lifting belts and lifting loading procedures, additional staff, new signage reminding visitors of mask requirements, dining restrictions, a reservation system for managing visits and the number of visits. people at the resort, contactless accommodation and a state-approved test site for 1,700 active employees.
But some visitors reported that mask warrants were not being enforced.
When asked about these reports, Miller said: “We have done extensive work and continue to expand our operations as needed. I can’t speak to a person’s experience, but we appreciate feedback and will continue to make changes to the health and well-being of our employees, guests and the community as a top priority. “
Conor Cahill, press secretary for Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, said ski resorts across the country need to “do better job planning and manage growing weekends.”
