Prior to his death, the man who detonated a Christmas bomb in downtown Nashville had sent material about his views to people he knew, federal investigators said Saturday.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Jason Pack, special agent for the FBI, said authorities “know the suspect has sent material to various acquaintances across the country to defend his views.”
Authorities have said Anthony Warner, 63, was responsible for the explosion, which damaged dozens of buildings and injured several people. Warner died in the explosion and officials have not released a motive.
Pack has not released additional details about what Warner’s packages contain, but he urged anyone who may have received material from Warner to contact the FBI at 800-CALL-FBI.
The bombing took place on Christmas morning long before downtown streets were bustling with activity. Police responded to a report of shots fired on Friday when they encountered the RV, shouting a recorded warning that a bomb would detonate in 15 minutes. Then, inexplicably, shortly before the explosion, the audio switched to a recording of Petula Clark’s 1964 hit “ Downtown. ”
