Fauci pushes back the timeline for large-scale vaccinations

Americans hoping to get a coronavirus the vaccine that is not part of a priority group may have to wait another month or two, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci. The nation’s leading infectious disease expert recently predicted that anyone wants a vaccine could get one by April, but now says they will have to wait until late spring or summer.

“We hoped this would be by the end of April,” Fauci said said CNN on Tuesday. “This timeline is likely to be extended to mid to late May and early June.”

The April forecast was based on expecting Johnson & Johnson to have more doses available, Fauci said.

Even though enough doses are available in the coming months, Fauci warned that it will take time to administer the vaccines to everyone.

“It may take until June, July and August for everyone to be vaccinated. When you hear about how long it will take for the overwhelming proportion of the population to be vaccinated, I don’t think anyone agrees that it will be good to end the summer and we get to the beginning of autumn, “he said.

President Biden later told CNN City Hall on Tuesday that enough doses would be available for anyone who wanted one by the end of July.
