Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Thursday that the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations is rising – and that by April it will be an “open season” for virtually everyone to receive the jab.
Fauci, who is a scientific adviser to President Joe Biden, told NBC Today that the vaccination rate will accelerate sharply in the next two months.
He credits future deliveries of the two approved vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, with the potential approval of a third, and moves by the Biden administration to increase the nation’s ability to administer doses.
The top US infectious disease expert said that “by April,” it will be “open season, which means virtually everyone and anyone in any category could start getting vaccinated.”
He warned, however, that it would take “several more months” to provide logistical shots to American adults, but predicted that the immunity of the herd could be reached by the end of the summer.
