Father of a teenager who was arrested with AK-47 in Times Square was killed in a police shooting

The teenager’s father who was picked up with an AK-47 assault rifle in a Times Square subway station was a criminal killed in a shootout with Ohio police last month.

Andrew Teague, 43, was shot dead by authorities in Columbus, Ohio, on March 5 after a wild chase on Interstate 270.

Authorities tried to arrest Teague on an assault warrant in connection with a Feb. 2 incident before the deadly encounter, police said.

Police chased Teague for over an hour, and in an attempt to flee, Teague drove the wrong way on I-270, eventually hitting two other vehicles head-on within minutes.

Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said Teague then got out of the vehicle and exchanged gunshots with a Columbus police officer and a deputy, WBNS-TV reported.

Teague – who had a long criminal record, including arrests for gun possession, domestic violence, burglary and drug trafficking – was killed in the shootout. Investigators found a gun on the spot.

Teague’s cousin HK Woods told The Post over the phone that he was having problems with his probation officer and it “drove him to the brink.”

Saadiq Teague, 18 from Ohio, will be walked out of Transit District 1 in Columbus Circle on April 16, 2021.

“He went out the only way,” Woods said.

The man’s 18-year-old son, identified by New York police as Saadiq Teague, was picked up by NYPD police on Friday afternoon with an AK-47 assault rifle and a gas mask in the Times Square subway station.

Saadiq, a resident of Ohio, was taken into custody without incident around 12:30 p.m. on the mezzanine level of the subway station on the A, C, and E lines. He was not immediately charged.

Sources say the teenager was sitting and charging his cell phone in the station with the gun next to him in plain sight when uniformed police officers saw him.

The AK-47 was unloaded, but the teenager had a fully loaded magazine in his backpack, sources said, along with the gas mask.

Saadiq told police he thought carrying an unloaded rifle with the separately stored ammunition is legal in New York City, a senior police source said.

The FBI was also involved in the investigation of the case, sources said.

18-year-old Saadiq Teague was arrested and held there for possession of a firearm and drug accessories.

Woods said he has lost touch with Saadiq in recent years, but called him a good kid who loved to play football.

An Ohio man who identified himself as Saadiq’s uncle was stunned by the news Friday.

“How the hell did he end up in New York?” the family member, Rennell Mahone, asked during a phone call with The Post before asking, “He had a gas mask in the subway station?”
