Farm Workers, Teachers Among Those Now Eligible to Get Vaccinated in Santa Clara County – NBC Bay Area

Sunday marked a new stage in the COVID-19 vaccination effort in Santa Clara County, as education and child care workers, emergency services and the food and agricultural industry became eligible for vaccination.

At the Monterey Mushrooms facility in Morgan Hill, health officials began vaccinating 1,000 farm workers as part of a two-day effort.

“Our goal in the county is to make sure that everyone has access to vaccination when it becomes eligible and especially those who work in sectors that have been hardest hit by COVID and who work in communities that have been hardest hit by COVID. COVID here in our county, “said county health officer Dr. Sara Cody.

Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, the county’s COVID-19 testing and vaccination officer, said Sunday that nearly 20 percent of the county has been vaccinated at this time.

“We have a large capacity, we have a lot of clinics, we have providers all over the county – we just need more vaccine,” he said. “We hope to see more vaccines coming through the state from the federal government to us, especially now that the third Johnson & Johnson vaccine is being approved by the FDA.”
