WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A 23-year-old Florida man posing as a doctor and in prison as a teenager has been re-arrested on charges of fraud and theft, police said.
Malachi Love-Robinson was released on Thursday hours after his arrest, WPTV in West Palm Beach reported.
According to police, Love-Robinson asked customers to send money to his personal bank account instead of the shipping company he worked for. He is charged with acquiring $ 10,000 from the company.
According to a police report, Love-Robinson sent text messages to the owner of the company, saying that he is really sorry and that he is doing everything he can to “make it right,” the television station reported. “I don’t want to go to jail,” Love-Robinson said, according to the report.
He pleaded guilty to several charges of fraud, theft, and practicing drugs without a license as a result of his 2016 arrest.
Patients told the researchers that Love-Robinson claimed he had several degrees, including a Ph.D. and a doctor. Little did they know he was only 18 years old at the time.
He was charged with stealing $ 35,000 from an elderly patient in 2015, and authorities say he was illegally running a medical practice complete with an office, lab coat and stethoscope. He was also later charged with grand theft.
Love-Robinson insisted that he was not posing as a doctor but a naturopathic physician.
He served nearly 21 months in a maximum security prison near Fort Myers.
Records did not list Love-Robinson’s phone number, or whether he has a lawyer.
