ESPN moves the Michael Kay Show to the 2 p.m. slot

ESPN New York’s “The Michael Kay Show” will now go head-to-head in this afternoon’s battle of WFAN’s “Carton & Roberts” radio stations.

On 98.7 FM, the low-level “Max Kellerman Show” aired from 1:00 p.m., allowing Kay to face WFAN on an equal footing. The tortured program that ESPN New York had is smoothed a little more in this arrangement.

Starting Monday, the Kay show, which previously aired from 3 to 7 p.m., will take place from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Chris Carlin will start half an hour earlier on 98.7 FM when ESPN has no preliminary broadcasts.

In the first two months of the winter rating book, “Carton & Roberts” had an advantage in the male demographic group 25-54 when the flows of both shows are included. The two sides dispute how to view the Nielsen Audio ratings. The way ESPN NY looks at him, he wins.

While ratings were a factor, the impetus for the move was the Yankees program, which has a lot of 18:30 starts at the start of the season. Kay, the Yankees’ TV voice on YES, would be forced to leave the show at 5:45 p.m. In this new configuration, Kay will participate in the show that bears her practical name in those days.

Kay’s show was hampered by Kellerman’s awful numbers in the fight with WFAN. Lead-in will now provide much less excuse, as Bart Scott and Alan Hahn host a local / national hybrid show from noon to 2 pm Kellerman will still be on the often broadcast 1050 AM signal in New York.
