Error related to vaccine distribution in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The West Virginia National Guard has issued a statement regarding an error reported in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in Boone County.

According to WVNG, the error resulted in 42 people receiving the Regeneron Antibody instead of the Moderna vaccine.

Officials say those people received the antibody product at a vaccination clinic hosted by Boone County Health Department staff.

WVNG says medical experts in the interagency joint working group do not believe there is a risk of harm to the 42 people.

No other person received the antibody instead of the vaccine in West Virginia.

None of the other vaccine deliveries before or before yesterday are affected by this.

According to the National Guard, vaccine protocols have been revised and strengthened.

According to officials, 7,855 West Virginians were vaccinated across the state on Wednesday.

“As soon as we were notified of what had happened, we acted immediately to correct it and immediately revised and strengthened our protocols to improve our distribution process, to prevent this from happening again,” the general said. General James Hoyer, Adjutant General of the West Virginia National Guard. “I remain incredibly proud of everything our team has accomplished. Our number one goal was to save lives, and as we continue to increase the distribution of the vaccine throughout the state, we continue to save more and more lives every day. “

“The product administered is antibodies that fight COVID-19,” said Dr. Clay Marsh, the state’s COVID-19 tsar. “In fact, this product was the same one that was given to President Trump when he became infected. Although this injection is not harmful, it has been replaced with the vaccine. But this event gives our management team an important opportunity to review and improve the safety and vaccination process for every West Virginian. “
