Episcopate: the approval of abortion violates the Constitution

The Dominican Diocesan Conference (ECHR) yesterday urged lawmakers not to take “political and economic pressure from out-of-nation interests” to approve abortion in all three cases.

“We urge you not to submit to the pressure of a minority politically and economically supported by interests foreign to the nation and which adversely affect some sectors of national life,” the bishops said in a statement.

They appealed to the leaders and legislators elected to represent the people to defend the opinion of the majority who want life to be respected and defended. “The incorporation of abortion into our legislation, in any circumstance, is a flagrant violation of the constitution and a blow to the social and democratic rule of law,” says the CED.

Remember that the Constitution states that the state cannot apply the death penalty to even the worst offenders, because it says, “The death penalty cannot be established, pronounced or applied in any case,” the bishops said.

When referring to the case where the mother’s life is in danger, erroneously called “therapeutic abortion”, they cite that in medicine this term would mean “cure”, but in this case abortion is not a therapy and does not cure any disease.

Bishops say medical ethics indicates that, in the case of complications during pregnancy, proportionate efforts should be made to save the mother and child, but the premeditated death of one of them should never be a way out.

Violation

“Encouraging the mother to vent her frustration or anger, moving her in revenge against her own child, produces only the effects of very negative results and self-destructive attitudes in the mind,” they say of another cause.

“It is obvious that the terrible crime of rape is used to raise public awareness in favor of abortion, presenting the child as an innocent fruit of a possible brutal conception as an aggressor,” they say.

Creatures with anomalies

The bishops state in the statement that in cases of abortions caused by a physical defect of the child or his suspicion, known as “eugenic abortion”, they consider that they are based on the false postulate that only “healthy” are those who must establish the criterion of value when a life is worth it or not, after arguing that then there would be sufficient reasons to kill the handicap already born.
