The Community Environmental Action Program (PACMA), one of the organizations most fighting for the community and its natural environment, called for immediate action by the Dominican authorities to move the Estrella del Mar II power barge from the Ozama River and prevent the start of the new Estrella plant. del Mar III, which will soon arrive in the country.
Both facilities pose a serious threat to the survival of the Ozama River and its natural environment and jeopardize the area’s progress and development plans, as President Abinader promised the people of this area of Santo Domingo.
PACMA members staged a protest in front of the plant to raise awareness in the community and request the interest of the authorities of the Ministry of Environment to withdraw the license for the said facility. PACMA President Isaías Lara denounces that “dozens of community residents have complained about the impact of the smoke that goes directly to the homes of the area’s residents.”
