Elon Musk has just become the richest person in the world, with a net worth of over $ 185 billion.
Tesla’s share price rise on Thursday pushed Musk over Jeff Bezos, who had been the richest person since 2017 and is now worth about $ 184 billion. Musk’s rise in wealth over the past year marks the fastest rise to the top of the rich list in history – and marks a dramatic financial change for the famous entrepreneur who, just 18 months ago, was at the forefront of the rapid burning of Tesla cash and leverage his personal case against the Tesla Stock.
Musk started in 2020 worth about $ 27 billion and was barely among the top 50 richest people.
Tesla’s low share price – which has risen nine times in the past year – along with its generous salary package added more than $ 150 billion to its net worth.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s share price remained lower due to the potential for increased regulation in Washington.
Elon Musk passed Warren Buffett in July to become the seventh richest person. In November, Musk passed Bill Gates to become the second richest person. Musk has made more money in the last 12 months than Bill Gates’ entire net worth of $ 132 billion.
Tesla shares were recently trading at about $ 790, up more than 4% on Thursday. The company’s market value rose to $ 737.6 billion.
