Elimination of 500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Aurora Medical Center refrigerator was intended

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (WMTV) – Aurora Medical Center in Grafton says the person who eliminated more than 500 doses of Modern COVID-19 vaccine admitted to doing so intentionally on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, the Medical Center said it was found that 57 vials of vaccine had been taken out of a pharmacy refrigerator overnight and that an immediate internal analysis led investigators to believe the removal was caused by “involuntary human error. “.

However, the individual on Wednesday admitted that he did so intentionally.

Aurora Medical Center says authorities have been contacted and the incident is under investigation.

“We are more than disappointed that the actions of this individual will lead to a delay of more than 500 people receiving the vaccine,” the Medical Center said in a statement on Wednesday. “This was a violation of our core values, and the individual is no longer employed by us.”

Clinicians were still able to administer some of the vaccine from the vials within the allowable 12 hours after the refrigerator.

Once the vaccine is thawed, it cannot be frozen.
