Eddie Murphy gives his version of the basketball story “Chappelle’s Show”

Eddie Murphy said the “totally and absolutely right” part of his hilarious basketball game with Prince – and it’s just as funny as when his brother Charlie Murphy explained it in Dave Chappelle’s sketch comedy. Although, he acknowledges that there are some inconsistencies in the original story.

Murphy made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show while promoting his film Vine 2 America before the film premiered on Amazon Prime, where it opened about the crazy experience. While the original story said that he and his brothers were offered some Prince’s clothes to play with, Murphy says that he and his friends “actually had things from the club.” Prince allegedly wore the same outfit from his “Kiss” video, including a blouse.

“My brother said, ‘Okay, there will be shirts against the blouses,'” he began. “The blouses won, they defeated us,” he said, laughing with the host. “We had a guy on our team, Larry, who could play and he didn’t have shoes, so Prince gave him some sneakers. Prince also wore two, three sizes smaller than Larry, but Larry was so excited to wear Prince’s sneakers that he put these little sneakers on and couldn’t play the right game, “he said. he. “It simply came to our notice then. The only guy who could play was Prince’s shoes. ”

The comedian continued to fill the rest of the interview with impressions of some legends he met in his career, as well as some favorite memories. Murphy talked about the moment he received poor advice from Rodney Dangerfield, sharing laughter with Richard Pryor, and the legends he knew that he immediately felt are geniuses: Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney.

Eddie Murphy’s latest project serves as a sequel to the first Coming to America in which Prince Akeem (Murphy) returns to America in search of his long-lost son and heir to the throne of Zamunda. Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, Vanessa Bell Calloway and James Earl Jones return with Murphy for the new installment, which was written by Blackish creator Kenya Barris. Wesley Snipes, Garcelle Beauvais and Old Guard star Kiki Layne joins them in the cast. The film is scheduled to join the streaming service on March 5.
