EA celebrates acquisition of Codemasters by hiking at F1 2021 prices worldwide

price increase for 2021 in many countries with lower annual incomes
In December 2020, we reported that EA entered and bought Codemasters in a $ 1.2 billion mega-deal. This gave EA access to a fairly healthy portfolio of racing games, but at the time there was concern that the purchase could adversely affect consumer prices. It seems that EA has not wasted any time with the dummies affecting Codemasters games, but regional prices for F1 2021 could double or even triple compared to F1 2020.

Yesterday, Twitter user @RobotBrush posted a chart on Twitter putting global prices for F1 2020 and 2021 side by side. This shows that countries like China will face a 1.5-fold price increase, while other places like India will receive a 2.7-fold price increase. Argentina is stuck with the biggest price increase, with a 5.3x increase in price compared to F1 2020. It seems like the wrong time to be a fan of racing outside the US or the UK

Although most of these prices are still below the US base price, they do not necessarily justify price changes. Many of these countries have significantly lower average annual wages than the US, so it will be more difficult for these people to get their hands on F1 2021. For example, according to Statista, the annual income of households in Argentina is in the vicinity of $ 4,000 ( 371,180.09 Argentine peso). When eliminating rent and other living expenses, it is unlikely to remain at the end of the month.

It will be interesting to see if these overall price changes affect sales in the coming weeks. If EA is successful in F1 2021, it may waive further price increases outside the US. In any case, tell us what you think about this economic problem in the comments below.
