Dr. Dave Hnida, CBS4 medical editor, spoke about these reports in an interview with CBSN Denver.
“Specifically, what we are saying is that two masks can actually be equal to the protection you get from N-95 masks, which is considered the best mask that exists in the absence of a complete respiratory unit,” he said. said Hnida.
He said wearing a surgical mask with a cloth mask on top provides an extra layer of protection.
“The reason for this is that you get more viral particle filtering, it becomes more of an obstacle course for the viral particle to go from the air into the nose and throat and then into the lungs.”
But three masks can go too far, as this could interfere with your ability to breathe.
He pointed out that President-elect Joe Biden had been “double-masked” for several months, as had coaches at NFL football games.
“Even in my own family, when we have outside contact – no matter how limited – we hide twice. So the question is “Is it effective?” The answer is “Yes” and it is something you may want to consider. ”
