Dubbed movies are banned in Mexico

From now on Mexican cinemas can only display the file movie in its original language with subtitles in the Spanish, this in accordance with the last amendment to the eighth article of Federal Law of Cinematography.

“The films will be presented to the public in the original version and subtitled in Spanish, in the terms established by the regulations. Those classified for children and educational documentaries may be presented in duplicate, but always subtitled in Spanish,” the document explains.

The reform, which was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in February last year, aims to guarantee access to culture for those with hearing impairments, according to Sergio Mayer, chairman of the Committee on Culture and Cinema.

It is worth mentioning that cinemas have suffered millions of losses due to the Coronavirus pandemic, to the point of having to close some theaters throughout the Mexican Republic.
