As of Monday, San Mateo County is offering a COVID-19 self-vaccination clinic through eligible health care workers and vulnerable residents.
The clinic – which uses the Moderna vaccine – begins at 1 p.m. at the San Mateo County Events Center at 1346 Saratoga Drive in San Mateo.
Vaccinations will be available to eligible workers and residents under Phase 1A of the Vaccine Distribution Guidelines. This phase includes the following groups: those at risk of COVID-19 through work in health care or long-term care settings (including non-clinical staff) and residents of health care facilities, assisted living facilities and care settings long-term for the elderly or vulnerable individuals.
The president of the San Mateo County Supervisory Board, David Canepa, announced on Monday the clinic of the mass vaccination clinic.
“This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time and it shows that the dark days of winter will end soon,” Canepa said.
Those interested in being vaccinated on the drive-thru site must complete an online form to confirm eligibility. Registration and scheduling information will be available after confirmation of eligibility.
The clinic will be open from 13:00 to 17:00 on Monday, then from 9:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Saturday.
There are approximately 38,000 health workers and 12,000 long-term residents in the county. Bill Silverfarb, political adviser for Canepa, said about 12,000 people have been vaccinated out of the county’s allocation of 22,000 vaccines so far. This does not include workers in medical systems such as Kaiser Permanente or Sutter Health, who have separate vaccine allocations.
Silverfarb said it expects the clinic to continue as long as vaccine doses are available. The second dose of vaccination will be available in four weeks through a similar clinic.
Phase 1A people who have Kaiser Permanente health plans can get the vaccine through their primary care provider at Kaiser.
