Dozens show up at Ford Field without an appointment in hopes of getting the vaccine

DETROIT – On Thursday, many performances at the Ford Field mass vaccination site led to officials calling that anyone who could arrive at the site by 6 p.m. will be vaccinated.

Dozens of people showed up on Friday hoping the same thing would happen.

“I thought it was worth a shot, and if it doesn’t work, it’s not a big deal,” said Rob Trexler.

Trexler and his wife drove from New Hudson to wait and see, but not everyone was as relaxed as he was.

When police and Ford Field staff told the crowd that they were not staying, some gave the officers weight and did not want to leave, which could be a problem, as those waiting in line without any appointments can slow down the process for those with appointments. .

People are advised to wait in their cars or sideways, and not in line if someone wants to check for additional vaccines due to no-shows.

As the number of COVID-19 cases increases, the Detroit Institute of the Arts will remain closed to the public until April 2.

In addition, the Department of Health of St. County Clair sent a bulletin advising people to work from home if possible, along with strict mitigation strategies for workers who cannot.
