Dodger Stadium will stop testing COVID-19 and move to the vaccination site

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Dodger Stadium, the nation’s largest COVID-19 test site, will stop testing the virus and move to a massive vaccination site, the city announced Sunday.

Testing at the stadium will end on Monday, the city said. The site will be transformed into vaccinations by the end of the week, reaching the expected 12,000 vaccinations per day, once it is fully operational.

“Since the beginning of this pandemic, Dodger Stadium has been the basis for our testing infrastructure, a vital part of our effort to track the spread of COVID-19, try to overcome outbreaks and save lives,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “Vaccines are the safest way to defeat this virus and establish a path to recovery, so the city, county and our entire team are putting the best resources on the ground to make Angelenos vaccination as fast, safe and effective as possible. “.

City officials have acknowledged that closing the site will reduce the overall testing capacity available in the region – but will triple the distribution of the vaccine. They mentioned that the city continues to operate eight permanent and six mobile sites, and the testing will be extended to some of these existing sites.

The city opened Dodger Stadium for testing COVID-19 in May 2020 and since then more than 1 million tests have been administered there.
