Doctors and medical students went before the National Assembly to ask the deputies to eliminate the draft Law no. 525, which amends Law 43 of 2004, which creates the certification and recertification regime for health professionals and technical specialists.

The initiative presented by the deputy Mariano López, aims to postpone the application of the basic certification test for doctors, nurses, dentists and veterinarians until the end of the internship, so that they can comply as soon as possible with the obligation imposed by the state to comply with two years that period of teaching, supervised and evaluated in the public services of the country and which is a requirement to obtain the adequacy for the free exercise of these professions.

It is established that for professions and careers that carry out bachelor’s practices, the certification tests are applied immediately before or after the diploma and then they are released the aptitude for free exercise of the profession once they have passed it.

It also provides that the state will promote internationally recognized certifications so that Panama’s health professionals, specialists and technicians can take advantage of the growing employment opportunities at the international level.
