Disneyland will serve as a super site for COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County – NBC Los Angeles

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim has been set up as the first super distribution point (POD) site for COVID-19 vaccines in Orange County and will open later this week, officials said Monday.

“Disneyland Resort, the largest employer in the heart of Orange County, has come up to host the county’s first Super POD site – taking on a landmark role in our vaccine distribution process,” said incumbent President Andrew Do, First District, in -a county statement announcing the site. “We truly appreciate the support of the Orange County Fire Department, our cities and our residents as we continue to launch COVID-19 vaccinations throughout the county.”

The site will have the capacity to vaccinate thousands of residents daily, according to the county.

“It is important to vaccinate as many people as possible for COVID-19 and we need space to do so,” said supervisor Donald P. Wagner, the third district, in a county statement. “I thank Disneyland Resort and the city of Anaheim for stepping up their joint effort to provide OC residents with virus protection.”

The Disneyland site is expected to be operational later this week, matching a timeline similar to that of Los Angeles, moving Dodger Stadium from a super COVID-19 test site to a super vaccination site.

The site will continue to follow state guidelines and will only provide photos to people eligible for vaccines. Currently, the state only allows people in “Phase 1a” to receive vaccines, the group being recently expanded to include anyone aged 75 and over, according to the county statement.

Only people with appointments and entering phase 1a will receive vaccinations in Anaheim resort, the county said.

“The coronavirus has brought both a public health crisis and an economic devastation,” Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu said in a county statement. “With this super site we will start to overcome both. Every vaccination done in Anaheim will help save lives and accelerate the reopening and recovery of our city. “
