Disney made some major changes to its summer film on Tuesday.

The studio has announced that “Cruella” and “Black Widow” will be released in theaters on Disney + with premier access, and its Pixar film “Luca” will go directly to Disney +.

“Today’s announcement reflects the focus on consumer choice and serving the evolving preferences of the public,” said Kareem Daniel, president of Disney media and entertainment.

“By using a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic market that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to use the best options to provide fans and families around the world with the unparalleled story of the Walt Disney Company.” he said.

In a change in its launch strategy, “Cruella” will debut as planned on May 28, and “Black Widow”, originally set for May 7, now debuts on July 9. Both titles will also be available on Disney + for an additional $ 30 rental fee.

“Luca”, which was originally scheduled for release in theaters, will be broadcast live on Disney + as part of the traditional subscription. In markets where Disney + is not available, “Luca” will be released theatrically.

  • “Free Guy” passes on August 13, 2021
