Since its unveiling last year, many have turned to the new God of War continued for PlayStation 5 “God of War: Ragnarok” by default. This is primarily due to the fact that, at this time, Santa Monica Studio and PlayStation have not announced the official name of the next installment in God of War the series will actually be. That being said, if a new teasing from God of War director and writer Cory Barlog is any clue, it looks like “Ragnarok” will not be in the title in the end.
In a new tweet from Barlog on Twitter, the famous video game director shared an article that used God of War: Ragnarok naming convention. Barlog offered his own title when he shared the tweet and asked, “How come I’ve never heard of this game?” Although it has not been fully confirmed by him, it seems to be a suggestion that God of War: Ragnarok it is not, after all, the name of the next game in the series.
😳
How come I’ve never heard of this game? https://t.co/zyDCww2eFN

That being said, Barlog could just drag everyone’s feet with this latest tweet. If you happen to follow Barlog on Twitter, you’re probably aware that he’s not talking about the next God of War I play so much. And even when it does, often in cunning ways like this it somehow amuses the existence of the project in the first place.
However, this is reasonable God of War: Ragnarok it is not the name of the future sequel. The only reason this title appeared in the first place is because the game’s trailer simply revealed God of War logo next to the words “Ragnarok is coming”. Many then began to use God of War: Ragnarok as an abbreviation to refer to the future title, although those who work on the game in any capacity have never called it that.
For now, we know for sure about the next one God of War is that it is scheduled to be released on PS5 in 2021. A version of the game for PlayStation 4 could also be in the books, but the powers that be have not confirmed or denied this information from Sony. With its launch still planned for this year, be sure to keep an eye on our coverage of the sequel right here if you want to stay up to date.
Do you think Barlog’s teasing here indicates that? God of War: Ragnarok after all is not the name of the sequel? Be sure to let me know either in the comments or on Twitter at @ MooreMan12.
