Dinelson Lamet of San Diego Padres comes out after 29 pitches with a tight forearm

SAN DIEGO – Dinelson Lamet, right San Diego Padres, left the start of the season on Wednesday after two scoreless innings due to the tightness of his right forearm.

Lamet seemed to throw well against the Milwaukee Brewers, eliminating four after one to start the game. He threw 19 strikes from 29 pitches, reaching 97 mph on his fast ball.

Brewers won 4-2.

Lamet, 28, had not played since leaving his last start in 2020 with elbow discomfort and lost the playoffs. He received several opinions that surgery is not necessary and followed plasma therapy rich in platelets in the off-season.

Lamet was operated by Tommy John in 2018 and did not return until the second half of 2019.

Lamet was 3-1 in 12 starts last year, when he finished fourth in the Cy Young National League election. He averaged 12.1 strikes per game and had an ERA of 2.09, the third best in the NL.

His quick exit came a day after left-hander Adrian Morejon was operated on by Tommy John.
