Digging into the biggest season of Destiny 2 of the chosen secret

I think the general consensus for Destiny 2’s Chosen Season is that it’s starting pretty strong. Maybe not necessarily with the activities, because Battlegrounds are fine, but nothing particularly innovative. But certainly in terms of tracking prey, with a ton of new items, good to follow and a wide range of places to find them.

We know a certain amount about what’s next this season in the roadmap. Two new Battlegrounds and a new Strike, but also a promise Tex Mechanica “wrote” an exotic search.

The only thing that has been publicly revealed about the exotic search is that it has something to do with the ship seen below, as it was labeled as part of the “exotic search” in the press kit. But there are no other public details from Bungie itself.

But I really wanted to get into data analysis today, because I think it’s going to generate a significant amount of hype if you at least know the rough edges of what’s going on here. If you prefer to know nothing, I understand that and you can come back now. I will not go into story spoilers, but I will talk about the nature of the search that follows and what you will get to do it.

This information comes from the Bungie API and from people like Ginsor and Parisito. Here are rough sketches of what we know about the mission:

  • The title is that it is assumed that the future Tex Mechanica search could be something on the scale of the Whisper or Zero Hour mission. While the Hawkmoon Dam farm had some elements of it, it was still largely existing areas where I had already been. This Cabal ship should be a brand new space.
  • It is also quite big space, from what we know about it, indicating the type of extended mission we would expect from a mission like Whisper or Zero Hour. It also has the build “do the mission first, then unlock the director’s access to it,” as we’ve seen with those missions in the past.
  • Within the mission, there is a kind of mechanic “open hidden caches” to progress a little faster, indicating perhaps the tracking of a catalyst or a ship.
  • The enemies on board seem to be both Cabal and Scorn, indicating some sort of conflict there, which would explain the strange appearance of a random Screeb in the Season of the chosen trailer.
  • There are some indications through future weekly challenges May get access to the ship itself immediately after week 3, but the exotic mission may not launch until week 9. So there may be a story component here that is not just a secret mission, although the secret mission will take place here.
  • The exotic Tex Mechanica here is Dead Man’s Tale, a new scout rifle, not First Blestem, as many predicted. I don’t know what its exotic advantages are yet. The image below is the weapon with an ornament on it.

In short, something quite big is coming and it seems very likely to be on the scale of a zero hour, even after seeing recently for the Zero Hour-ish Hawkmoon farm. And it will involve Scorn, who we didn’t really deal with at Forsaken. Who taught them to fly spaceships?

Anyway, I don’t regret knowing the above information, as all it does is make me really hyped about what’s to come. We may start to see this ship appear in two weeks, but if it doesn’t, everything will arrive later in the season. Stay tuned.
