2077. Cyberpunk is played and available on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X, but this is only through reverse compatibility. These versions of the game take advantage of some of the technologies they run, which is why the game runs much better on PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S compared to Xbox One, Xbox One X, PS4 and PS4 Pro. That being said, a proper – and free – state-of-the-art update is underway, and during a recent interview, CD Projekt Red chief Marcin Iwinski teased this upgrade.
Unfortunately, Iwinski didn’t say much about these versions of the open world RPG, but he teased that these versions of the game would use all the features and possibilities offered. In other words, it looks like these versions will be less of a port and more built from the ground up.
“So right now the game works in reverse compatibility and works very well,” Iwinski said. “Consoles are much faster. And then, we’re planning a free next-generation upgrade for everyone who has a next-generation console. So if you buy the game now, you can play it on the next generation. It works great thanks to the larger capabilities of the new consoles. But, with the next generation update, we will use all the functionalities or the new functions and technical possibilities offered by the new platforms. “
Given the game’s plethora of performance issues and bugs right now, especially on the PS4 and Xbox One, a proper next-generation version of the game may not be coming soon enough. That being said, with the unexpected and unprecedented problems the game has faced since its release, who knows when these versions will arrive. It is very possible that they will now be pushed further as a result of the fiasco that is 2077. Cyberpunk launch.
