Detroit residents 60 and older with certain medical conditions can now receive COVID-19 vaccine

DETROIT – Detroit residents over the age of 60 with certain chronic conditions can now have them COVID-19 vaccine, Primary Mike Duggan said.

“Detroit is committed to making vaccines available to all of our most vulnerable residents,” Duggan said. “People with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or other chronic conditions have much higher death rates due to COVID than the general population.”

Vaccinations will take place at the TCF Center, Duggan said. Eligible residents should make appointments at TCF from Wednesday through calling 313-230-0505.

Appointments will be available starting this week, according to the city.

When patients arrive at appointments, they will be asked to provide proof of their medical condition, such as a health care note, insurance file, prescription bottle or any other document that will check their condition.

Last week, Duggan made residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and caregivers eligible for the vaccine. He also announced Saturday’s seniors – a series of weekend vaccination events for Detroiters age 65 and older.

Duggan announced a program to provide $ 2 rides to the TCF center for Detroit residents who do not have their own transportation. This program includes wheelchair accessible vehicles for people with physical disabilities.

Here is an updated list of eligible Detroit residents who can schedule meetings at the TCF Center:

  • Food service workers, including grocery store, restaurant, meat and food packaging and beverage handling employees living or working in Detroit.

  • Security guards and caregivers living or working in Detroit.

  • Any Detroit resident who is 65 years of age or older (born 1955 or earlier).

  • K-12 teachers and support staff and day workers.

  • Clergy members interact with members of their congregation.

  • Paid and unpaid people in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials working in Detroit.

  • Members of the disabled community in the city.

  • Home health care workers living in Detroit.

  • Residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their carers in life.

  • Residents aged 60 and over with chronic health conditions.

Vaccinations will be administered by appointment only.

Workers and residents will not be vaccinated without an appointment by calling 313-230-0505.

Grocery store employees and security guards scheduling their appointments will be required to provide name, residence address and age.

For greater efficiency and comfort, the city recommends that, where possible, eligible members of the same family or neighbors schedule together and arrive in the same vehicle.

Essential workers in group B will be required to provide the name of the employer and the most recent payment quota in order to verify their eligibility.

Appointments should take approximately one hour after entering the TCF garage.

Anyone scheduling a meeting will receive two appointment dates – one for the first dose and one for the second dose required.

Call center staff will contact each scheduled person prior to the second meeting to remind them. Residents will receive specific instructions on when and where to reach the TCF Center and where to complete a basic consent form.

After vaccination, residents should remain in their vehicles in the TCF garage for approximately 15 minutes to ensure that they have no side effects. Medical staff will be on hand to help anyone with any side effects.
