Detroit Launches 8 Neighborhood COVID Vaccine Sites as Cases Grow in City

DETROIT – Detroit is launching eight nearby COVID-19 vaccination sites, adding to an expansion at the TCF Center to combat growing cases and hospitalizations in the city.

Detroit’s vaccination rate of 21% since Monday is well below neighboring areas and the overall state average of 35%. The city is expanding residents’ options with an urgent message: get vaccinated.

Next week, the city will offer eight additional locations during the week, in addition to Community Saturday and other information programs, to give Detroiters the opportunity to get vaccinated in a convenient and familiar location close to home.

From Monday, April 12 to Friday, April 16, there will be 1-2 locations operating every day and each city council district will have at least one vaccination event. The goal of the effort is to reach more Detroit residents, who are still behind other areas of the region and the state in terms of vaccination rates, in their own neighborhoods. The sites will be operated in partnership with the Detroit Public Schools Community District and the Detroit Islamic Center. Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine will be offered.

All location hours are from 8 pm to 5 pm – Appointments for all locations can be made at 313-230-0505.

“Beyond the great work carried out at the TCF Center in recent months, the teams of our Health Department visited 175 locations in the community and administered more than 45,000 doses. Today, we are stepping up our neighborhood-based vaccination efforts and more, ”said Denise Fair, chief public health officer. “We are deeply grateful to our partners in the Detroit Public Schools Community District and Detroit Islamic Center for providing us with these locations where Detroit residents can go and get vaccinated in their own neighborhood.”

TCF Walk Up schedules begin today

Also, starting today, the first meetings at TCF take place. Last week, Mayor Mike Duggan announced that the city’s operation at TCF will expand capacity from 5,000 doses per day to 8,000 per day, offering a walking meeting inside the center.

Residents now have the option to go to the location by car or walk when they call 313-230-0505 to schedule an appointment. If the caller prefers leadership, he will be scheduled for it, although it may take a little longer to get a date than it would be for the inner option.

“We want to provide the experience that makes each person the most comfortable,” said Mayor Duggan. “If you choose to increase for the first dose, there you will go for the second dose. The same applies if you choose the indoor location. ”

Starting Monday, people who select the inner option will start receiving the first dose at the TCF center. Here are the instructions for those who will take the interior option:
