Derion Kendrick, Clemson’s defender, is no longer part of the Tigers

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson defender Derion Kendrick is no longer part of the Tigers program.

A team spokesman confirmed Kendrick’s status on Sunday.

Kendrick, a 6-meter, 190-pound senior from Rock Hill, South Carolina, was an extremely talented player who had several discipline problems last season and did not play in three games.

After Kendrick did not play a victory over Pittsburgh in November, Clemson’s coach, Dabo Swinney, said: “Some might say he’s in the doghouse. I like to say he’s in the cottage of love. Just a little discipline. “

Kendrick started eight of the nine games he played last season. He had 20 approaches and led the team with six breaks. He also had a 66-yard touchdown recovery during his victory over Virginia Tech in December last year.

Kendrick was named a first team defender who played all ACC actions.

Clemson began spring training on Wednesday. Kendrick becomes the second defensive starter to leave last year’s group, which finished 15th nationally, with 326 yards allowed per game.
