Demi Lovato shared an empowering post, which is a reminder for everyone.
On Saturday, the 28-year-old “Trust” singer posted a short message on her Instagram story, reflecting on how she doesn’t have to be in a relationship to be happy.
“The best part about being alone is knowing that my happiness comes from no one but me,” Lovato wrote.
In September, PEOPLE exclusively confirmed that Lovato and Max Ehrich had canceled their engagement two months after proposing in Malibu, California, on July 22nd.
“It was a difficult decision, but Demi and Max decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” said a source at the couple, who began meeting in March. “They have respect and love for each other and will always appreciate the time they spend together.”
Also in September, Lovato told Zane Lowe of Apple Music that “it’s grown a lot this year.”
“When I realized that perfection is unachievable, no matter who you are, you could be literally the most perfect person on the planet, but it will still be scientifically imperfect with you,” she said. “I had to learn this hard.”

Then, in November, Lovato enjoyed the lively year when he hosted the People’s Choice Awards.
“I’m so excited to be here tonight, because honestly this year has been the longest three years of my life,” she said, reflecting on some of her greatest moments since the beginning of the year. “Don’t get me wrong, it started amazing. I sang at the Grammy and sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. But then COVID hit and it all stopped. So I did what everyone else did, I went into locked up and got engaged. “
Lovato added: “I got into painting, photography, meditation, I tested the limits of my post-colleagues indefinitely. I also didn’t know this could happen, but I reached the end of Instagram four times. Pretty little Liars, disengaged, then went in search of aliens in the desert. So pretty much the same as everyone else. “
