Demi Lovato feels the “guilt of the survivor” after the DMX overdose

Demi Lovato says that the recent overdose of DMX gives her “the survivor’s guilt” after she almost died in 2018 due to drugs.

The 50-year-old rapper “X Gon ‘Give It to Ya” is in life support and is in a “vegetative state” from last week, after a drug overdose and a heart attack.

“Every time I see someone OD or die in the public eye, I immediately think, ‘That could have been if you hadn’t put all this work into the last two years of your life,'” Lovato says in an interview with ” TMZ Live ”aired on Wednesday.

“There are times when I have felt the guilt of the survivor. You ask yourself, “Why are they still here, why aren’t there others?” It’s challenging. You have to realize that every day is a day that no one else receives. ”

The “Dancing with the Devil” singer – who overdosed in July 2018 after smoking heroin and also ingested fentanyl-related oxycodone – now considers her blessings “every day, I’m here on this earth.”

“It makes me want to live the best life I can have knowing that others have not had the opportunity,” she says.

Hundreds of people showed up Tuesday to hold a prayer vigil for DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, at White Plains Hospital. Some of his 15 children were among the visitors who were allowed inside the ICU to say “goodbye”.

“Please keep Earl / DMX and us in your thoughts, desires and prayers, as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges,” the family said in a statement to People.

In 2016, DMX suffered an almost fatal overdose in the parking lot of a hotel in Westchester, where doctors gave Narcan to save his life.
