The organization said Birx will use its knowledge of global health, pandemic response and health systems to support the Bush Institute.

Birx will also work on policy initiatives aimed at improving America’s position on addressing future health disparities based on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former White House health official said in a statement that she was “delighted to work with incredible people and impact programs at the Bush Institute.”

“The Bush Institute programs put people at the center, recognizing that we are stronger when we listen to each other, learn from each other, and come together to do greater things than any of us can do on our own,” she said.

Birx has previously worked with the Institute to Go Further, a public-private partnership aimed at reducing new cases of cervical cancer in women living with HIV in 12 African countries.

Birx, who served as U.S. global aid coordinator, recently gained national attention for her role as coordinator of the White House coronavirus workforce. In late January, Birx gave an interview to CBS’s “Face the Nation,” detailing his time in the Trump administration. She acknowledged that she often considered giving up the coronavirus working group and said that someone presented the president with a “parallel data set” on COVID-19 during her time.
