Former Senator David Perdue (R-Ga.) Announced on Tuesday that he will not compete in the 2022 race for the United States Senate in Georgia.
Why it matters: The 2022 election will play a key role in determining which party controls the Senate after Republicans – including Perdue – lost two seats in Georgia to Democrats during last month’s double run-offs.
- Perdue ran in a tighter race against nu-Sen. Jon Ossoff then did his fellow Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffer against Nu-Sen. Raphael Warnock.
- Since Warnock was running in a special election, he will be eligible for re-election in 2022. Loeffler and former Rep. Doug Collins are among the Republicans considering a challenge.
