Danilo: “PLD returns with more force, with more capabilities, with more experience”

Former President of the Republic and the new President of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Danilo Medina, gave a speech full of hope for the militants of the purple political group, in which he reiterated the beginning of a new stage that will be characterized by the renewal and strengthening of the party.

In her inaugural address, presented during the closing of the IX Ordinary Congress José Joaquín Bidó Medina, Medina Sánchez stressed that they are able to hold elections at the national level without opposition and that electronic voting works.

“This was an orderly, well-organized, transparent process, because this is the DNA of our party,” Medina said.

In her speech, Medina said that without the initials of the party she presides over today, Dominican history could not be built and added that in the 20 years they have remained in power, they have produced the development and transformation that the country presents it.

“PLD reappears with more force, more capabilities, more experience and more energy than ever before, remember this time,” were other expressions of the party’s newly appointed president.

He also pointed out that more than 30% of the members of the Central Committee are under the age of 40 and more than 20% are women.

New party members were greeted at the event.

Measures taken during the Congress

Among the measures announced by Medina was the reduction from 10 to 5 years of participation in the party, so that a militant can aspire to a position in the Central Committee.

Medina also promised that his time to lead the party would be for a single term, culminating in the organization’s 10th Ordinary Congress.

It also established that members of the Political Committee make a declaration on assets, and the use of economic resources for conducting internal campaigns was prohibited. Faced with this measure, Medina said that the votes will be won through ideas and proposals.

The heads of the secretariats may not hold office for more than two periods of 4 years. While the chairmen of the intermediate committees will cease to hold office without being elected to the central committee and there will be at least two vice-chairmen of the party to coordinate the work of the scientific-technical secretariat and the party.
