Danielito Zorrilla wins the fight, but is taken to hospital

Danielito “El Zorro” Zorrilla won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) NABO belt at £ 140 due to a split decision on Kazakhstan Ruslan Madiyev, but he paid a price.

The Puerto Rican boxer called for assistance to get out of the ring and was taken to hospital by ambulance to receive medical care as a precautionary measure after receiving multiple blows to the back of the neck during the semi-stellar fight of the series “Ring City USA” which took place on Thursday evening outside the Félix Pagán Pintor gym in Guaynabo.

Zorrilla fell to her knees on the canvas after Madiyev’s right hand on the back of her neck. Referee Danny Guzmán gave the Puerto Rican a few minutes to recover, but failed. Two doctors from the Puerto Rico Professional Boxing Commission examined Zorrilla. A few minutes later, they decided that the prudent thing to do was not to continue the fight.

The judges’ scores were 76-75 for Madiyev, 77-74 and 77-75 for Zorrilla.

Madiyev’s crimes (13-2, 5 KOs) started early in the fight. Guzman repeatedly warned him of illegal beatings, but they continued. The referee chose to penalize Madiyev in the fifth with a decrease of one point.

“All rigorous studies will be done to make sure you are physically fit. The most important thing is his health and after that we will sit down to evaluate the fight, to discuss the details and to see what comes next “, said Bryan Pérez, vice president of Miguel Cotto Promotions.
