Cuban handball goalkeeper Alfredo Quintana has died at the age of 32

Alfredo Quintana, The Cuban goalkeeper of the Portuguese handball team Porto, died on Friday in Portugal, where he was hospitalized in a very serious condition after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest this monthhis team reported to the press.

Quintana, born in Havana, was only 32 years old when he suffered a heart attack during training. He has since been treated in the intensive care unit of São João Hospital.

After confirming his death, his team shared a message of condolence on social networks in which he assures that the Cuban will be “always remembered” in the group.

Alfredo Quintana lived in Cuba until 2009. He arrived at FC Oporto a decade ago and in 2014, after becoming a Portuguese national team, he made his debut with the Portuguese team, with which he accumulated 72 international appearances.

The Antillean had managed to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Portuguese League, also establishing himself as one of the most destabilizing players in his position at international level, both in the category of the club and the national team.

In January last year, Quintana played a relevant role with the Portuguese team in the World Handball Cup in Egypt, a key event to show the good performance of the Portuguese team.

The Porto team also recently played the Champions League match against Meshkov Brest in Belarus.

Portugal will face France, Croatia and Tunisia on March 12-14 in Montpellier in the Olympic qualifying tournament for the Tokyo Games.
