CSEED M1 is a $ 400,000 folding MicroLED TV

For those who watch the excess of Netflix that may be worried that a huge TV would overwhelm their existence room atmosphere, do not be afraid: The SEMINA C M1 165 inch is a massive foldable display that disappears completely into the floor when not in use. Unfortunately, methe installation looks like a giant pain –and that’s assuming you survive the shock of the sticker.

Unlike companies like LG, which have used flexible OLED display technology to deliver giant TVs that can quietly disappear into a modest box when not in use, C SEED uses microLEDs instead. MicroLEDs, which many consider the future of screen technology, combines the best features of current display technologies with self-illuminating RGB pixels that do not require a backlight and without degrading organic compounds that are used to make OLED displays. The new screen technology is also more energy efficient, allows for thinner screens and can produce black and white that rivals the best TVs on the market.

The only downside is that microLED displays can’t fold as OLEDs can – at least not yet. So to make a 165-inch TV disappear into the floor, C SEED designed the M1 to separate first five separate folding panels ito each other like a huge fan. This is the other advantage of microLED screen technology: It allows the installation of much larger TVs from smaller panels, perfectly hiding all seams, so that the end result looks like a giant uniform display.

We’ve all seen it Jumbotron screens crossed with black lines, where the smaller panels do not align perfectly, but C SEED promises that it is not a problem with M1 due to a feature called Adaptive Gap Calibration, which senses when the panels have slight offsets and automatically adjusts the brightness of the edge pixels to hide any shadow that creates those unsightly seam lines.

The C SEED M1, available in gold, black or titanium finishes, can be yours for $ 400,000, but that doesn’t include the renovations needed to prepare a room for installation. If you want the full effect of a giant TV screen disappearing into your floor, you will need to get a contractor to make sure it is possible even for a room – and then there is room under it to consider if you live in a multi-storey house. If you live in an apartment or in an apartment in a tower, you will have to settle for other installation options, which include a huge box placed on the floor for the M1 to collapse or assorted decorative furniture for it to hide inside.

Sounds like a lot of work just to disguise a TV, but wtouching C SEED M1 slowly rises from the floor and then unfolds like the solar panels of a satellite that has just reached orbit is fascinating. Close it makes you have to wait a few minutes before you can watch TV so it doesn’t look as uncomfortable as it really is. Getting there is half the fun with M1.
