After the jury was sent to deliberation, the judge in the Chauvin trial generally dismissed lawmakers on Monday, following Waters’ comments.
“The jury is separate, so he spoke about this, but I expect he will weigh further once there is a verdict,” she added.
Several major cities across the country are bracing for the public response to the Chauvin verdict, bolstering security, and in some cases calling on the National Guard as a precautionary measure.
The video of Floyd’s death sparked massive protests last summer. And while most of the protests remained peaceful, some worsened to riots, looting and clashes between law enforcement and protesters.
However, the president said there was “absolutely no justification” for insurrection or violence.
“His position is that there should be room for peaceful protest,” Psaki said Tuesday when asked about the public’s reaction to the Chauvin trial’s verdict. “That will be his position, regardless of the outcome.”
