A 2018 video circulating on social media could provide some insight into why British TV personality Piers Morgan attacked Meghan Markle so aggressively: She hurt her feelings once by “ghosting” it”.
Morgan recalled following her and other members of the Suits cast on Twitter in 2015. She followed him back, started chatting online and building a friendship, and then met at a pub when they find out in the UK to watch tennis.
“I had two hours in the pub, she had some dirty martinis, a few mugs, I got off brilliantly and then I put her in a taxi,” he recalled, adding:
“It turned out to be a taxi that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry. And then the next night, they had a solo dinner together and it was the last one I ever heard from Meghan Markle. I’ve never heard of her. ”
Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy asked Morgan what had happened.
“I’m a ghost, Ryan!” he said. “Meghan Markle inspired me.”
Morgan called Markle a “slightly social climber” and admitted that it affected his feelings.
“I didn’t like being such a ghost,” Morgan said. “I thought it was a strange thing to do.”
Morgan said another nameless “Costume” actor he had been in contact with stopped talking to him, then reached out after the royal wedding.
“He appears apologizing and said, ‘I’m sorry, I hope you understand,'” Morgan said. “It simply came to our notice then. He was told to ghost me too. ”
Morgan made headlines this week by rejecting Markle’s allegation of racist treatment by members of the royal family and considered Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the couple “contemptuous.” He also posted on Twitter:
Morgan left the “Good Morning Britain” set on Tuesday in a moment and gave up the show later that day.
“On Monday, I said I don’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview,” hI wrote on Twitter. “I had time to reflect on this opinion and I still haven’t.”
