DALLAS – The Dallas Cowboys announced on Friday the dismissal of defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.
Cowboys have had one of the worst defensive performances in the franchise’s history and, worse, have been criticized throughout the 2020 season for the apparent lack of intensity of various defensive players.
“I appreciate my relationship with both Mike and Jim and appreciate the contributions they have made to our team in the difficult circumstances of 2020,” Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said in a statement. “It’s never an easy decision to make. I wish them all the best for themselves and their families in the future. “
Both coaches were hired as part of McCarthy’s staff at the end of the previous season.

Dallas’ defense was weak from start to finish in all aspects, including lack of communication and game day preparation, which players complained about anonymously in the first half of the season.
Dallas received 29.6 points per game, the fifth worst record in the NFL; were the penultimate against the race, accepting 58.8 meters per side, out of 386.4 meters per game.
The Cowboys allowed 258 points in the first six games, the most since 1954 for any team in the league. In the end, they accepted 473 points, most of their history.
Dallas allowed 164.8 yards on average in a hurry per game, the second worst record; back only to the year of its establishment in 1960.
In the last four games, of those who won three, they seemed to improve their defense by recovering 11 rival balls.
Dallas finished 6-10 in the postseason for the second year in a row.
