COVID Vaccines Updates: New Air Travel Pandemic Record Set on Friday at US Airports

NEW YORK (WABC) – Experts say this holiday weekend could be the busiest for air travel since the pandemic began.

More than 1.58 million people passed through TSA checkpoints on Friday. This is the largest number of people flying in a single day since the pandemic began.

It came on the same day that the CDC announced that fully vaccinated Americans could travel at “low risk to themselves.”

However, the organization urges people not to travel unless they have to.

New York vaccination update
Governor Cuomo announced on Sunday that 1 in 3 New Yorkers has received at least one dose of COVID vaccine and 1 in 5 is now fully vaccinated.

Cuomo said 187,964 doses had been administered in the state’s vast distribution network in the past 24 hours, and more than 1.4 million doses had been administered in the past seven days. Week 16 allocation of 1,389,705 first and second dose is expected to arrive on Sunday.

“Given that universal vaccine eligibility will take effect this week in New York, our goal is to continue to receive as many vaccines as possible and as equitably as possible,” Cuomo said.

In Easter speech, pope calls pandemic wars “scandalous”
Pope Francis used his traditional Easter speech to denounce as “outrageous” the fact that war continues to break out and military arsenals are fattening around the world as the coronavirus pandemic causes social and economic suffering.

Francis tempered his speech on world affairs on Easter Sunday with wishes of joy, along with accounts of the pain of the world’s many armed conflicts and other sources of violence. He also appealed again to the international community to overcome delays in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and to ensure supply to the poorest countries. For the second Easter in a row, the pope read his address inside St. Peter’s Basilica, instead of being outdoors, to discourage crowds in St. Peter’s Square.

Europe is stepping up vaccinations as the virus haunts the Easter holidays
Thousands of people across France are spending their Easter holidays preparing for COVID-19 photos as the government tries to speed up vaccinations amid a new wave of infections.

In Lyon, a football team opened its stadium for the holiday weekend as a mass vaccination center and offered 200 volunteers to help medical workers. But as Europe faces its second Easter Sunday in a row under the pandemic cloud, some French cities have backed down against President Emmanuel Macron’s insistence on getting vaccinated over the holiday weekend. Spain, Italy and Germany have kept some vaccination centers, but others have been closed for holidays.

Easter in New York
Things will look a little different this year in New York for Easter Sunday due to the coronavirus pandemic. The annual Fifth Avenue Easter Festival and Hood Festival is becoming virtual for the second year, while the COVID-19 security protocols will be in place for Sunday Mass at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.

The PA restricts the restrictions, but the changes do not apply in Philadelphia
People living in Pennsylvania can also look forward to a reduction in restrictions. Starting Sunday, restaurants in Keystone State can increase their capacity by 75%. The changes to restaurants do not apply in Philadelphia, where there has been an increase in COVID rates and hospitalizations. It is estimated that 50% of the city’s population will be vaccinated by April 30.

The UK will test virus certificates for events

The UK government plans to test a coronavirus status certification plan in the coming months to allow the safe return of mass gatherings to places such as sports grounds and nightclubs. Officials are expected to consider passports proving whether a person has received a vaccine, recently tested negative for the virus or has immunity due to a positive test in the last six months.

Michigan does not implement stricter restrictions as COVID cases increase
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will not enforce stricter restrictions, despite his state’s growth in new COVID cases, citing the need for residents to follow appropriate health lines.

Beware of the scams of the COVID vaccine survey, 7 On Your Side warns
With the expansion of vaccines, new vaccination scams are emerging. First, fake registration cards are sold on the Internet. The most recent is the fake vaccine survey. These surveys entice you with the promise of a prize or money at the end, but they are only designed to trick you into handing over your identity keys and entering your bank account.

Can I still get coronavirus after the COVID vaccine?
It is possible that the coronavirus may continue to spread after vaccination. Experts say the risk is low, but are still studying how well the shots prevent the virus from spreading. Current vaccines are extremely effective in preventing serious illness in people with COVID-19, but even if vaccinated people do not get sick, they may still become infected without symptoms. Experts believe the vaccine would also reduce the chances of those people spreading the virus.
“A vaccinated person has better control of the virus, so the chances of transmission will be greatly reduced,” said Dr. Robert Gallo, a virus expert at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
